Meet the Judges

of the 2023 Summerville Sweet Tea Cocktail Contest


Three judges, comprising mixologists and industry professionals, local people of interest, and culinary content creators have been appointed to evaluate the cocktail entries for the esteemed Critic's Choice Award, considering factors such as taste, presentation, and originality. 



Ashley Lowman is the founder and creator of the Instagram blog GullahEatsCHS. Born and raised in the heart of downtown Charleston, Ashley is a wife and mother of 2. With roots from the neighboring Edisto Island, Ashley has a passion for cooking, enjoying timeless Low Country dishes, and curating a plethora of events.

Frank Staropoli: I am a Husband to Bridgette and Father to 2 daughters Gabriella and Ava. I have a Culinary background and degree from Trident Tech and Bachelors of Science in Organizational Management from Charleston Southern University.  Originally from NJ, I was able to use my Italian Heritage to spend my career in Food and later moving to the wine industry where I currently reside. I served on the board of F3 Summerville for their community and charitable efforts and the board of the DD2 Education Foundation. I am Founder and President of the Beacons Mentoring Organization, Vice Chair of Summerville Family YMCA, and on the board of the Summerville Italian Feast. I love seeing Summerville actively involved in supporting so many organizations and want to help create an environment my children can grow old in (if they feel lead to do so).

Chris Makowski, Public Information Officer for the Town of Summerville, SC. With over 6 years of experience, he has a proven track record of success, having led projects such as rebranding initiatives, website redesigns, crisis communications, social media growth, and launching the first municipal-based podcast in the Lowcountry. He truly believes in the power of informed communities and is dedicated to finding the best ways to connect with those he serves.
